Upcoming Events - 3 FREE Singing
Workshops

Additional information for all prospective participants in the 3 FREE Singing Workshops offered by the One Achord Community Choir Committee.

The project is entitled SING TO SUSTAIN, and the workshop series bears the title FROM
CROAKER TO CROONER. It is anticipated the Free Singing Workshops initiative will assist
the choir to recruit, rebuild and restore adult choir membership, due to losses caused by
COVID-19 interruptions and natural attrition. The City of Melville is supporting the project via
a My Community Grant (Thrive category), 2022.

About the Workshops:
The vocal workshops will be led by One Achord’s Director of Music, Gillian Parker. Gillian is an internationally trained vocal coach, is WAAPA trained and has prepared a brief to explain the objectives and content of the workshop series for your interest and attention. Here is her message to you.

“These workshops are aimed at anyone who loves to sing and would like a better understanding of their voice and experience what it’s like to sing in a choir.
Comprised of 3, 2hr workshops that will incorporate education on how the voice works, how
to improve on range, quality, and ease of singing, and how to sing simple harmonies."

Workshops:
Introduction to the voice as an instrument – cover the mechanics of the voice as an
instrument, singing myths, common issues that people experience and how to turn them
around to make singing easier with more control and less effort. Participants will experience
for themselves the tools they can use to free their voices and improve their overall quality.

Choir component:
Start by learning a simple round that gives an experience of how melodies and harmonies
interact. From there we’ll be learning some arrangements of songs in 3- or 4- part harmony
that can be developed to perform somewhere.

Each workshop will incorporate both vocal technique and choral learning and provide tools
to help participants in both areas.”

You are asked to commit to all three singing workshops to gain maximum benefits from the
learning experience.

The One Achord Community Choir is a not-for-profit, incorporated community choir. The choir welcomes all people who love to sing and is an inclusive group. No audition is required.

The choir sings in 4–part harmony: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.

Twice weekly sessions are held on:
Monday evening 7.30pm – 9.30pm and
Wednesday morning 10.00am – 12.00 midday

Choristers may attend one or both sessions.

Once the workshops are completed, participants will be warmly invited to join the full choir, at four regular rehearsal sessions, on either Monday evening or Wednesday mornings.

It is our hope that participants will then become members of the One Achord Community
Choir. We look forward to seeing you on 30th July to extend a welcoming smile and hand of friendship.
